Description
The Organic Acids Test (OAT) is the most comprehensive profile of its kind. It evaluates yeast and bacterial overgrowth, vitamin and antioxidant levels, fatty acid metabolism, neurotransmitter levels, oxalates, mitochondrial function, oxidative stress, detoxification and much more. Organic acids are the by-products of human cellular activity, the digestion of foods and the metabolism of gastrointestinal flora.
The GPL-TOX screens for 172 different environmental pollutants using 18 different metabolites from a single urine sample including organophosphate pesticides, phthalates, benzene, xylene, vinyl chloride, pyrethroid, insecticides, acrylamide, perchlorate, diphenyl phosphate, ethylene oxide, acrylonitrile and more. The profile also includes Tiglylglycine (TG), a marker for mitochondrial disorders resulting from mutations of mitochondrial DNA. Organic acid testing is strongly recommended as an initial clinical screening tool whereas the GPL-TOX test is an important tool for assessing exposure to common environmental toxins.
